provincial capital of Punjab, Pakistan, famous throughout the world for producing the best quality rice. The unit is placed amidst beautiful paddy fields and is custom-designed especially for long-grain rice.
History
The group established its first food grain outlet in 1927 and today
comprises of several companies with
a group turnover, for 1998-99 in excess of Rs.1.50 billion and a projected turnover
of Rs.1.65 billion
for 1999-2000.

Mr. Farooq A. Alvi - Chief
Executive of Basma Rice Mills (Pvt.) Ltd. and Chief Executive of Standpharm Pakistan
(Pvt.) Ltd.
Mr. Alvi joined the group operations in 1986 as Chief Executive of Standpharm. Mr. Alvi is
a professional accountant with experience spanning over a period of 15 years. As a
professional accountant, he was associated with Auditors of international standing and was
exposed to the operations of various national and multinational mega companies. Mr. Alvi
is responsible for the group's export business, mainly of rice.
Mr. Muhammad Arif - Director of
Basma Rice Mills (Pvt.) Ltd., Partner in Tariq Flour Mills and Arif Rice Mills.
Mr. Arif has rich experience in the grain business. He joined group activities in 1989 and
is responsible for the management of Tariq Flour Mills and Arif Rice Mills.
Mr. Muhammad Arif Polani- Director
of Green Tower Trading, Dubai.
Mr. Polani has an extensive experience of marketing rice in the Middle East. He joined the
group activities in 1999 and is committed to control sales in Saudi Arabia and the
Emirates.
Mr. M. Zafarullah - Director
of Basma Rice Mills (Pvt.) Ltd.
Mr. Zafarullah is a seasoned banker and has joined Basma in the begining of 2000 to look
after its Operations, Accounting and Administration.

The group is primarily involved in the manufacturing, marketing, selling, distribution of
pharmaceuticals and flour, import of wheat and export of rice. The associated

Standpharm Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. - (SPL) ISO-9002
Certified
SPL specializes in manufacturing life-saving medicines. SPL has also entered into a
collaboration with Merck Marker (Pvt.) Ltd., representing E.Merck & Boehringer
Ingelheim in Pakistan to market and distribute SPL's propriety antibiotic products. The
employees strength is 530.
Tariq Flour Mills
The company has 400 employees with a turnover of Rs.380 million, providing fine quality
"atta" (flour) to local consumers for the last 4 decades.
Arif Rice Mills
A husking unit with an annual turnover of Rs.170 million to cater to the need of the local
market and feeds the exporters for reprocessing.
